Secure Notepad is a simple TXT editor, just like good ol' Windows Notepad. I would say they're identical, so it won't take you long to learn how to use it. The great difference is that Secure Notepad encrypts your text files saving them in a native ETXT format.
ETXT files can only be opened with Secure Notepad, and only if you enter the correct passphrase. You have also the option to use a file as a key to grant access to the file. As another security feature, Secure Notepad gradually fades to white the text whenever its window is not active, hiding it from prying eyes until it finally minimizes the window automatically.
What I missed is the possibility to choose between different encryption methods or at least have some information about the level of security, such as the program telling you how strong your selected password is.
Secure Notepad (current version is 1.0) is more or less exact copy of famous MS Notepad. But this version includes several secure features:
Secure fade text out if inactive after few seconds
Automatic minimization if inactive after few seconds
Support new "ETXT" file format which contains encrypted text
Ability to choose private elements to encrypt the text
The OpenSLL engine is used for encryption (Blowfish algorithm), so it is expected to be very safe. But actually, the firmness of any algorithm depends on the private key's size. It will be absolutely useless if you choose the passwords like "god". To help you on this, in addition to password, it gives you the ability to select any file to be used as an additional secure element. All you need is to decide: which file is permanent on your PC and can never be changed by any reason (e.g. you favorite music, picture, etc.).
